There are many things you can do to improve your own mental health.  How many of these have you done this week?

Meet new people

Taking an interest in something and getting involved can help you feel less isolated, why not come an visit one of our events? 

Do something creative

Find something you enjoy such as music, painting or cooking, and make time to do this 

Learn new skills

Enrol for a course. Learning something new can improve your confidence, help you make friends and improve your employment prospects

Relax, and make time for yourself

Ensure your day includes things that help you unwind.  For example, reading, listening to music or meditation
 
Get a good night’s sleep 

Establish a regular routine and learn to de-stress before bed.   For example, have a warm bath and a milky drink
 
Keep physically active

There is lots of evidence that physical activity can make you feel better. Regular exercise can help if you feel down or anxious as well as increase your energy
 
Learn how to respect yourself and others

Ensure you understand your feelings and emotions and take time to express them rather than bottling them up.  Ask for help if you need it.

Working with Employers to find the right people! Karen Johnson from Stanley became anxious about the chances of ever getting back to work but Derwentside Employment Team (DET) stepped in at just the right time and found an excellent opportunity with a Consett based company, Durham Legal Services.

Taking Stock! Stewart Whyte from the Green Corridor area of Stanley works part time in the Warehouse at Wilkinson’s’ unloading wagons and taking in deliveries, it’s a far cry from his management position in the finance industry but happiness comes in small packages and Stewart is certainly a happier man these days.
