Working with Employers to find the right people! Karen Johnson from Stanley became anxious about the chances of ever getting back to work but Derwentside Employment Team (DET) stepped in at just the right time and found an excellent opportunity with a Consett based company, Durham Legal Services.

Taking Stock! Stewart Whyte from the Green Corridor area of Stanley works part time in the Warehouse at Wilkinson’s’ unloading wagons and taking in deliveries, it’s a far cry from his management position in the finance industry but happiness comes in small packages and Stewart is certainly a happier man these days.

Helping Employers help their staff No-one knows what’s round the corner, it would be wonderful if we could prepare for every event but life doesn’t always allow us that luxury. What we do hope though is that if we were to suffer a life changing event that throws us off kilt our Employer would support us entirely. Helen Nixon, from Elddis Transport is one of those Employers.

Every cloud has a silver lining! When Yale announced the closure of their Castleside site earlier this year Margaret Keetsley of Consett who’d worked there for over 3 years was naturally unsettled. “I had been made redundant before and was really worried about being out of work” Margaret added “I knew it was time to change my career but I wasn’t sure what else I could do”

Thursday 29th May was a significant day for Deborah Hamflett of Stanley, at 12.10am she passed her driving test with the help of Derwentside Employment Team.

People in Derwentside who are unemployed are being given the opportunity to learn mindfulness meditation to help them return to work. Truepotential in partnership with Derwentside Employment Team are offering the 5 week course throughout 2008 in an effort to address the stress and anxiety returning to the workplace can cause.

Derwentside Employment Team continues to support residents of Derwentside in accessing training and moving into work.

New Dates have been announced for self-esteem (TIME) workshops, the courses alternate between Stanley & Consett.

The timing couldn’t have been better when Victoria Giffard was invited to the Annfield Plain Health and Lifestyle Event hosted by Derwentside Employment Team last year.

For Tom Farrey finding work that would suit his circumstances didn’t seem possible, but after meeting DET Adviser Martina Blake, Tom landed the perfect job.
